The articles are lacking an entire explanation as to how simultaneously young children across the western world would develop lyme. The situation is not confined to children; the same strange geographic and statistical data applies to the explosive growth of Lyme disease amongst adults.
It is apparent that with the incidence of Lyme significantly increasing there can only be three scenarios. Either the ticks have become more active more virulent .We have become more susceptible to tick bourn infections or the infection is contracted from an entirely different source.
We are becoming more susceptible to infections in general [ more on this in Normal Gut Flora section] While it used to be uncommon for children to have more than one or two infections a year, now more than six is the norm. it is a factor, but enough evidence is now becoming available to suggest that Spirochete infection could have an entirely unsuspected mode of transmission.
The case for Lyme to be implicated in Autism is clearer when we find that we host Intestinal Spirochetes as part of our natural flora ,[including Borrelia species] the surprising thing is they have no detectable function at all. There are two schools of thought on this, some consider that they are commensal and how we react with them is still a mystery while others consider that they are opportunistic pathogens waiting their chance to infect systemically.
In Lyme it’s known that the infectious agent a spirochete [Borrelia] is a pleomorphic organism that is it has the ability to change shape. It has at least two forms, in addition to the spirochete form it “morphs” into cell wall deficient bacteria [CWD] [sometimes called other names “L“form , nanobacterium
Many credible articles now cite cell wall deficient bacteria [CWD] as responsible for much chronic illness. In fact they are responsible for ALL the diseases where the immune system is involved and acts against the host, the so-called autoimmune TH1 diseases.
The same diseases that a disproportionate large number of parents of Autistic children also suffer with .Treating chronic illness’s with antibiotics including Lyme is usually only partially effective, the immune system should kick in when the infectious load is reduced to manageable proportions this obviously does not occur in many chronic diseases. We now know that our commensal flora can and do manipulate our immune system, including would be pathogens we host. They actually switch the immune system off [see normal flora and treatment sect] This is a previously unknown pathway of disease progression. this adds to the argument that many chronic infections stem from within the gut, it explains the lack of antibodies particularly in Lyme disease.

More on the infection link with Alzheimer’s [March 2010]Fact…Studies have shown that those caring for people with dementia are at greater risk of illness, stress and depression.
Bacteria being attacked by beta amyloid, in this image enlarged 18,500 times.
With Alzheimer’s a protein called beta amyloid, or A-beta, piles up into tough plaques that destroy signals between nerves. When that happens, people lose their memory, their personality changes and they stop recognizing friends and family.
..But now researchers at Harvard suggest that the protein has a real and unexpected function ‹ it may be part of the brain¹s normal defences against invading bacteria and other microbes.
